Frozen shoulder is a very painful and sometimes paralyzing condition that seems to affect  mostly certain groups of people. Diabetics, athletes and women have a much greater incidence of occurance than others.

Frozen shoulder is known clinically as adhesive capsulitis. It presents in three stages. At this point, the patient has little to no mobility in the shoulder and will often speak of temporary paralysis. The final stage is often called the thawing stage. During this stage, the shoulder will begin to be more loose and a greater range of motion can be achieved. The inflammation will also go down, relieving a good bit of the pain in the shoulder.

 

While most patients report that the frozen shoulder condition came on gradually, some say that it just suddenly appeared. The funny part about this condition is that it may disappear as suddenly as it appeared. Treatment is often difficult as there are no distinct causes for the appearance of the condition.

 

When seeking a cure through exercise, frozen shoulder patients should not begin any exercise plan until they consult a physician or physical therapist.
